Beaches in walking distance...

It is less than one hour drive from Shannon airport to West Clare! The villages of Doonbeg, Cree and Quilty with shops, traditional pubs and restaurants are only a short distance from the house. The area is renowned for the hospitality of its locals and whether you meet them on the road or in the quaint local pubs over a pint of Guinness they'll always have a friendly chat and the craic with you. Lough Donnell which is known for its diversity of birds is not far from the house. 2km-long Doughmore beach is only a few walking minutes away.

What to see and what to do...

Though the sights of County Clare are all within easy reach, West Clare itself is still one of the last secrets on the Tourist Map of Ireland. It attracts especially those visitors who look for peace and relaxation in an scenic landscape of rolling hills and rocky coast line. Kilkee has a beautiful sheltered beach and is also starting point of the Loop Head Drive leading along spectacular cliff scenery to Loop Head Lighthouse. The bustling market town of Kilrush with it’s beautiful marina is just 15 minutes drive away. Boat trips to Scattery Island commence in Kilrush Marina. The town of Miltown Malbay is hosting the annual Willie Clancy Summer School each July which attracts thousands of visitors who are passionate about traditional Irish music and dance. Further sights nearby include Doolin, with the ferry to the Aran Islands, the Cliffs of Moher as well as the Burren limestone landscape with its huge archeological and botanical potential. The sights in and around Ennis - Quin Abbey, Craggaunowen, Knappogue and Bunratty Castles can also be reached in less than an hour
Golfing in Doonbeg
A 5 minute drive will take you to the renowned Greg Norman designed Trump International Golf links course, luxury Hotel and Spa in Doonbeg or to the beautifully located Golf Links Course in Kilkee. Oother renowned Golf courses are nearby in Kilrush, Spanish Point and Lahinch - all less than half an hour from the house. Ballybunion in County Kerry can easily be reached via the Shannon Car Ferry. The area has excellent sea and freshwater fishing opportunities. A number of rivers and lakes offer free fishing for brown trout, Atlantic angling charters are available from Doonbeg (10 mins).

at Doughmore beach, in Baltard Bay, in and around Spanish Point are ideal and well known locations for surfing. The rolling seas make these areas a paradise for followers of the sport.

Clogher beach is in walking distance and a popular spot for families in summer, though not safeguarded. But White Strand Blue Flag beach in Doonbeg is only 15 minutes away and supervised in season. Other supervised beaches are in Kilkee, Quilty, Spanish Point and Miltown Malbay. Kilkee also has an indoor pool, which is open in summer.
