Swimming, Surfing & other Watersports
Whitestrand is a sheltered beach fabulous for swimming with a guard on duty in the summer months. It is in short walking distance from the house. Depending on the conditions surfing is possible here as well. Excellent surfing conditions prevail at Doughmore Beach on the other side of the Bay which is also great for long beach walks and horse riding. Kilkee has an indoor pool, which is open in summer.
The Atlantic coast of West Clare is renowned for the clear waters with an abundance of marine life, perfect
for scuba diving. A scuba diving centre with excellent classes for beginners is located in Kilkee with needed equipment being provided.

Angling
The area has excellent sea and freshwater fishing opportunities. Whether from the coastal rocks, on the beach, or in the many rivers and lakes - there's plenty of fish to be caught. While rock fishing is only recommended for the more experienced anglers, Angling charters are available in Doonbeg and Kilkee and ideal as first steps into deep sea angling under the supervision of experienced fishermen.
Walking and Cycling

Wildlife
Sheltered Doonbeg Bay is one of Ireland's few coastal wildlife preserves. With its seaweed shores it is ideal breeding ground for a variety of bird species as well as providing ample feeding for native and migratory birds. Flocks of visiting waders, such as dunlins, godwits, redshank, oyster catchers and turnstone roost and shelter in the area and feed in the seaweed river estuary.
The shoreline fields and lake swamplands are home to lapwing golden plover, ringed plover, curlew, a variety of gulls, cormorants,divers, whooper swans, duck and the elusive kingfisher. Poulnasherry Bay and Loophead are also excellent places to observe wildlife. The dolphin families in the Shannon Estuary can be visited by boats from Kilrush and Kilkee.
Golf
A 10 minute drive will take you to the renowned Greg Norman designed Doonbeg links Golf course, luxury Hotel and Spa. The other renowned Golf courses in Kilrush, Kilkee, Spanish Point and Lahinch are all less than half an hour from the house.
Sightseeing
Kilkee has a beautiful sheltered beach and is also starting point of the Loop Head Drive leading along spectacular cliff scenery to Loop Head Lighthouse. The bustling market town of Kilrush with it’s beautiful marina is just 15 minutes drive away. Boat trips to Scattery Island commence in Kilrush Marina. The town of Miltown Malbay is 10 kms away and offers the annual Willie Clancy Summer School each July which attracts thousands of visitors who are passionate about traditional Irish music and dance. The famous
Cliffs of Moher and its state of the art interpretive centre Atlantic Edge is also only a 30 min. drive away.
